Annual changes of oak mortality in different crown-dimensions in the forests of Kurdistan province (Case study: Baneh County)
Oak mortality is one of the most important management problems in the Zagros forests and the first signs of oak mortality appear in the canopy of trees. The aim of this study was to investigate the trend of oak mortality in trees with different crown-dimensions in the forests of Baneh County (northwest of Kurdistan province). For this study, four sites in the northern slopes (Saraki and Mirhesa...
متن کاملEconomic Evaluation of Carbon Sequestration in Zagros Oak Forests (Case Study: The Pahnus Forest habitat, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province)
Examining the economic value of carbon sequestration in forests is essential, given the risk of global climate change, which has posed a profound challenge to societies internationally. The present study investigates the amount of carbon sequestration and its economic value in the oak forests (Quercus brantii L.) of Pahnus forest habitat with an area of 990 ha, located in Chaharmahal va Bakhtia...
متن کاملAssessment of geostatistical and interpolation methods for mapping forest dieback intensity in Zagros forests
During recent years, oak decline has been widely spread across Brant’s oak (Quercus Brantii Lindl.) stands in the Zagros Mountains, Western Iran, which caused large-area forest dieback in several sites. Mapping the intensity and spatial distribution of forest dieback is essential for developing management and control strategies. This study evaluated a range of geostatistical and interpolation m...
متن کاملIntraspecific variation in host susceptibility and climatic factors mediate epidemics of sudden oak death in western US forests
Umbellularia californica is one of the key infectious hosts of the exotic Phytophthora ramorum, which causes sudden oak death (SOD) in California and Oregon forests. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the epidemiologically relevant parameters for SOD in California and southern Oregon, including potential differences between the two states. Experimental infection of U. californica l...
متن کاملThe changing role of fire in mediating the relationships among oaks, grasslands, mesic temperate forests, and boreal forests in the Lake States
Historically, oak forests and woodlands intergraded with southern boreal forest, temperate mesic forest, and grassland biomes, forming complex fire-mediated relationships in the Great Lakes region of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, USA. Variability in fire recurrence intervals allowed oaks to mix with grasses or with mesic forest species in areas with high (2–10 yr) or moderate (several dec...
